Sublimation: Puzzles and Games for Creative Print Ideas
A sublimation puzzle turns your personal photos and individual motifs into a lasting, fun gift with brilliant color reproduction and a pleasant feel, without an additional print layer. Thanks to sublimation printing, specially coated surfaces can be designed precisely and colorfully. Whether as a photo gift for family and friends or as a creatively personalized game for a special occasion: sublimation puzzles and games impress with their high print quality and versatility. In Print Equipment's range you'll find various puzzle formats as well as other sublimatable games for different applications and print projects.
What is a puzzle suitable for sublimation?
A sublimation puzzle differs from conventional puzzles in its coating, which was developed specifically for sublimation printing. This coating absorbs the color pigments under heat and bonds them permanently with the surface. No additional print layer is created: the motif literally becomes part of the material itself.
The results impress with:
- Brilliant colors: Clear, vivid motifs with high contrast
- High level of detail: Fine lines and complex designs are reproduced cleanly
- No palpable print layer: The surface stays smooth and pleasant to the touch
Printing puzzles with sublimation – how it works
Printing puzzles via sublimation is uncomplicated and integrates well into existing workflows. The process takes place in just a few steps:
- Output the motif as a mirror print on sublimation paper
- Position the transfer paper precisely on the puzzle blank
- Carry out the pressing process with the transfer press at the right temperature and pressing time
- Remove the transfer paper – done
The result is permanently color-intense prints with even color gradients and fine details, without cracks, peeling or fading even after long use.
Which games can be printed with sublimation?
Print Equipment's range includes various items that are excellently suited for sublimation printing. Besides puzzles in different sizes and materials, you'll also find other sublimatable game items for personalized projects and special gift ideas.
Sublimation blanks: Puzzles
Puzzles for sublimation are available at Print Equipment in various versions – from compact formats with large pieces to larger variants with many small pieces. The Sublistar® wooden puzzle is particularly high-quality: the combination of natural wood material and the Sublistar® coating ensures especially brilliant print results with deep colors and clear contours. In addition, there are frameless cardboard puzzles in various sizes, which are ideal for photo prints and individual motifs thanks to their uncomplicated handling and an even surface. Sublimated puzzles are perfect as personal photo gifts.

Why sublimation printing is an ideal choice for games
Sublimation printing combines high print quality with lasting results. This makes it especially attractive for game items:
- Brilliant color reproduction: The sublimation process produces intense, vivid colors
- No flaking: The color bonds permanently with the coating
- Pleasant feel: No applied print, but a smooth, natural surface
- High customizability: Any motif is possible, from the family photo to personal artwork

Areas of use for sublimation: Puzzles and games
Sublimated puzzles and games are suited above all as photo gifts for private occasions and as personalized games. A puzzle with a family photo, a vacation motif or a self-designed image motif is a unique gift that brings joy – for birthdays, at Christmas, for weddings or simply as a surprise in between. Personalized games such as a memory game with your own photos or a printed mini basketball hoop with a personal message go one step further and offer a real wow effect. In addition, sublimatable game items can also be used for promotional items, events and promotion.
What to look out for when buying puzzles for sublimation
So that the print result convinces, it's worth looking at the following points:
- Surface and coating – only blanks specially coated for sublimation absorb the color permanently; conventional puzzles are not suitable
- Material quality and workmanship – high-quality blanks ensure reliable, reproducible results
- Size and number of pieces – the optimal formats vary depending on the motif and intended use
- Suitability for the intended use – for photo gifts with fine details, larger formats are recommended; for promotional items, more compact variants are often enough
